January..."j'aime la galette..." - part 2

Galette

Last year in January, I told you about this delicious tradition of La Galette des Rois (King' cake) to celebrate the Epiphany in France.

I invite you to go back to this post but I want to give you one of my favorite place where to order some galette in New York city. Everybody at The Lycee Francais knows the place and queue every Friday morning in the cold to get the Galette they order for the week end !!!

A moving but beautiful movie - The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

"Le Scaphandre et le Papillon"

Jean-Dominique Bauby was a key player in Parisian social and cultural circles before suffering a massive stroke at the age of 43, which robbed him of all muscle control save his left eyelid. Blinking one letter at a time, the Elle Editor composed a book describing life in a vegetative state that became an international best-seller. This is the basis of Julian Schnabel’s enthralling new film, with the marvelous Mathieu Amalric as Bauby.

Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a powerful meditation on the nature of visual perception, as well as a celebration of the emergence of personal artistic expression.

Directed by Julian Schnabel France, 2007, 112 mins
With Mathieu Amalric, Emmanuelle Seigner,Marie-Josée Croze, Anne Consigny
Best Director, Technical Grand Prize - 2007 Cannes Film Festival

"It is wonderful: a rhapsodic adaptation of a memoir, a visual marvel that wraps its subject in screen romanticism without romanticizing his affliction." by Michael Phillips at the Chicago Tribune.

My Boulangerie

3

One of my friend just sent me this info. I haven't tested it but it looks good !!!!

You can order croissants from My Boulangerie and you'll get dough which you let thaw and rise overnight at room temperature. Then bake. Similar drills for brioches, even Proust's beloved madeleines. There are desserts available and seasonal items, too. So even if you didn't grow up with the smell of warm croissants or the taste of a madeleine, the goods from My Boulangerie might just convince you otherwise.
